‘Mother of champions’: Ben Bernabe hails Hidilyn Diaz’s support for Asian Games medalist

Lawyer Ben Bernabe praised Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz’s support for young weightlifters, including Asian Games bronze medalist Albert Ian Delos Santos, saying that she is like the “Mother of Champions.”

Diaz, the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist, said she was so nervous for Delos Santos while he was competing and was overjoyed when he won a medal.

She also described him as one of the future Olympic gold medalists of the country in weightlifting.

In a post on X, Bernabe said he was happy to see Diaz being there to inspire other athletes.

He also said she does not need to compete because she has nothing more to prove. Aside from her Olympic gold medal, she also won gold medals in the Asian Games, Southeast Asian Games, IWF World Championships, and Asian Championships, he noted.

“She’s got it all!” he said.
