More Electric and Power Corporation has asked the Iloilo City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 37 to resolve its expropriation case seeking to take over the assets of longtime local power distributor Panay Electric Company (Peco).

In a recent 10-page motion, More Power lawyer Hector Teodosio asked that the company’s application for a writ of possession be submitted for resolution.

More Power’s bid for the immediate resolution of its expropriation case came as Peco filed a petition asking the Court of Appeals (CA) to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) to stop the proceedings.

Peco was the longtime power distribution utility in the city, but President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law Republic Act Number 11212 which gave the franchise to More Power.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in May issued a provisional certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN) that allowed Peco to continue its services while it remained entangled in various legal disputes with More Power.
