Marcos vows aid for families of 2 seafarers killed in Hormuz attack

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed concerned government agencies to extend assistance to the bereaved families of two Filipino seafarers killed in an attack on a Saudi Arabia-flagged oil tanker crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro expressed the Marcos administration’s sympathies to the families of the seafarers.

“Unang una po nakikiramay po ang Pangulo at ang administrasyon sa pamilya ng dalawang seafarers mula sa Cabuyao, Laguna at Daanbantayan, Cebu,” she said.

“Nag-utos na po ang Pangulo agad-agad na tulungan ang mga pamilya ng dalawang nating kababayan na nasawi at ibigay lahat ng kailangan nila, pati ang benepisyo, compensation, insurance proceeds na naaangkop na dapat ibigay sa ating kababayan na nasawi.”

Hindi po pababayaan ng gobyerno, ng pamahalaan, ang pamilyang naiwan ng dalawang nating kababayan,” Castro said.

According to reports, 16 Filipino seafarers were aboard the Sidr, a Saudi-flagged oil tanker, when projectiles hit their ship. Only 14 survived the attack off the coast of Oman.
