Marcos pushing for new class suspension guidelines

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants new guidelines on the suspension and resumption of classes in times of inclement weather conditions, Malacañang said on Thursday.

“Minamadali po ito, dahil nga ang sabi ng Pangulo kahapon na ang panahon ay paiba-iba, lalo na ngayon at minsan biglang bubuhos ang ulan o bigla namang walang ulan,” said Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro in a press briefing.

The government is currently studying how to coordinate class suspension announcements to avoid confusion, especially when weather conditions suddenly worsen or improve.

“Kailangan pong aralin para hindi po magkaroon ng miscommunication o malito ang mga magulang, ang mga bata kung anong oras papasok o hindi papasok, said Castro.

“Kinakailangan po itong mas mabilisan, kasi mas marami po kasing naapektuhan, mga bata at mga magulang kapag hindi agad nagkakaroon ng announcement,” she added.

Earlier, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said they would submit a proposed directive to overhaul existing rules on class suspensions and resumptions and give local officials and school heads more authority on the matter.
