Marcos orders probe of confrontation between PNP, BOC personnel in Bulacan

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a probe into the alleged confrontation between Philippine National Police and Bureau of Customs personnel during the destruction of smuggled cigarettes in Bulacan, Malacañang said on Tuesday.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro said those provrn to have committed wrongdoings may face penalties, including dismissal.

The PNP has conducted an initial investigation. The alleged Highway Patrol Group personnel involved in the incident were relieved from their posts for the meantime.

“Kung mayroon man silang pagkakasala at mayroong pang-aabuso na naganap at nagawa, dapat lamang po nila itong panagutin,” Castro said.

“Hindi po hahayaan ng dalawang ahensya na sa kanilang parehong panig ay magkaroon ng mga hindi kanais-nais na mga personnel,” she added.

Castro said those found to have violated the law shall face appropriate consequences.

“Kung dapat na matanggal sa posisyon, ay dapat gawin,” she said.

Castro said the government is investigating the circumstances behind the confrontation.
