Marcos orders gov’t agencies to solve nightmare traffic gridlock at NLEX

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed government agencies to find a solution to the severe traffic jams along the flooded portions of the North Luzon Expressway.

“Ipinag-utos ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa iba’t ibang ahensiya ng pamahalaan na tutukan ang problema sa NLEX upang maiwasan ang muling pagkakaparalisa ng trapiko sa expressway sa gitna ng malakas na pag-ulan noong nakaraang araw,” said Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro.

She said the Department of Public Works and Highways, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and NLEX Corporation are in constant discussions to prevent a repeat of the nightmarish traffic jams in recent days.

Measures include the deployment of high-capacity pumps to clear floodwaters from the NLEX, the installation of sheet piles to prevent the Tulaoc River from overflowing, and deepening the said river.

Castro said traffic volume has eased along the northbound lane, such as in the Tulaoc and San Simon Interchanges.

“Maayos at mabilis naman ang daloy ng trapiko sa iba pang bahagi ng NLEX at SCTEX,” she added.
