President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday assured that there is sufficient food supply amid the ongoing economic impact of the continuing Middle East conflict on fuel and basic commodities.

In a press briefing in New Delhi, the President said they are focusing particularly on food supply and prices to prevent the Middle East crisis from affecting Filipinos’ daily lives.

“There are certain things that you cannot control, you have no influence over, such as the war in Iran and the volatility of the prices of oil. You can, however, do something about food,” the Preskdent said.

He went on: “So, ‘yun ang tinitiyak namin. That’s why in the past few days, marami kayong naririnig, sapat ang food supply dito sa atin sa Pilipinas.”

As part of efforts to bring down food prices, Marcos said the Philippines is eyeing a possible long-term rice supply arrangement with Vietnam, which was discussed during a 20-minute bilateral meeting with Vietnam.

“We talked about rice and rice importation and talking about a long-term contract. We talked about pricing. Hindi pa tapos. We’ve been talking about this for a long time,” he said.

The Philippines also pushed for food and energy security during the BRICS Summit.

The President thanked local government units for helping the government bring aid to communities in need.
