Lorna Kapunan loses Gretchen Fullido sexual harassment case to DivinaLaw lawyers

House private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan lost a sexual harassment case to her counterparts at DivinaLaw after the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) acquitted broadcast executive Cheryl C. Favila and TV Patrol segment producer Maricar P. Asprec based on reasonable doubt.

MTC Branch 32 acquitted Favila and Asprec in the case filed by news anchor and television host Gretchen Fullido, who was represented by Kapunan.

Favila was represented by DivinaLaw lawyers Atty. Klinton Torralba, Atty. Iyla Marie Ferrer and Atty. Janessa Mari Kudera.

In its 91-page decision, the MTC ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt prompting the acquittal of Favila and Asprec.

The ruling was a legal setback for Kapunan, who stood as private prosecutor in the Fullido case.

Fullido filed the criminal case in 2019 over alleged sexual harassment with other complaints for libel and victim-shaming also previously raised against the two broadcast executives.

The MTC decision ordered the acquittal of Favila and Asprec in the sexual harassment case under Republic Act No. 7877.
