Philippine First Lady Liza Marcos joined United States First Lady Melania Trump and other First Spouses for a luncheon supporting Trump’s initiative to help children through technology while protecting them from online dangers.
Marcos thanked Trump for bringing the First Spouses together for this cause, saying there is a need to protect the Filipino youth from “creepy websites.”
Philippine authorities have linked violent websites to recent school shootings in the country.
“Here’s to building a safer, brighter and more hopeful future for all children — especially our young Filipino youth who have fallen victims to all these creepy websites,” Marcos said.
She said this issue is close to every parent’s heart.
“No matter where we come from, we all share the same hope for our children — that they are given every opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, while staying safe and protected in an increasingly digital world,” she said.
Trump reconvened members of her “Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition” during the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The coalition seeks to help children grow and thrive through the safe and innovative use of advanced technology, including artificial intelligence. It aims to provide countries with access to advanced technology to help children, educators, and parents while also protecting them from online dangers.
The White House said Trump welcomed leaders from around the world, including representatives from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Poland, Ukraine, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Panama, Canada, and other nations.
“Together, we are a beautiful range of cultures, languages, histories, and traditions. And yet, we stand unified around one everlasting truth: the future of our world will be determined by what we do for our children today,” she said.
