Letran honors Peralta, Sotto, and Medialdea
In a rare gathering of the country’s leaders, Letran Knights Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta for the Judiciary, Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III for the Legislative, and Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea for the Executive, were honored by their alma mater, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, with the Manuel L. Quezon Award at the Manila Yacht Club on Thanksgiving Night recently.
The three wede joined by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 95 Men’s Basketball Champions, the Letran Knights, led by this year’s heralded Most Valuable Player, Frank Yu.
Peralta is a graduate of B.S. Economics; Sotto, grade school, high school, and A.B. English; and Medialdea, B.S. Economics.
Letran College Rector & President, Fr. Clarence Victor Marquez, OP (left), in referencing the recent NCAA feat, acknowledged the honorees as “champions in the three branches of government.” He called the event “a true celebration of the arriba spirit” and an early gift to the Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s quadricentennial anniversary next year.
Fr. Boyd Sulpico, OP- Alumni Chaplain (right) referred to the honorees as the “triune knights” representing the three ideals of the institution – Deus, Patria, Letran (love of God, of country, and of Letran). He noted that the celebration was providential as it coincides with the holiday of Thanksgiving, and is a fitting occasion to rally the community to support our leaders.
The award is named after Letranite Manuel Luis Quezon, the recognized second President of the Republic of the Philippines.
