Leonardia group seeks exclusion of Benitez from Bacolod voters’ list amid plan to run for mayor

Three members of the group of Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia have asked a local court to exclude former Negros Occidental 3rd District Rep. Albee Benitez from the list of the city’s registered voters—which, if granted, will prevent him from challenging the reelectionist.

The petition was filed before the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) by Grupo Progresibo members Hector Yula, Teodoro Abao, and Jonah Tornea Abao. They alleged that the Election Regulatory Board (ERB) gravely erred when it approved Benitez’s application to register as a voter in Barangay Mandalagan.

Benitez’s application for the transfer of his registration from Victorias City, Negros Occidental, was filed last April 22; the ERB denied the opposition to his application on July 23.
