Legendary justice stays ‘low key’–even in death

Sharing is caring!

Even in the afterlife, late justice Jose BL Reyes keeps his humility.

A lawyer recently spotted Justice Reyes’ grave in Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina, a few meters away from his grandfather’s.

“His marker is so bland, presumably by his choice, one could not tell he had been a lawyer or a Supreme Court Justice, much less perhaps the most famed Justice of them all, so feared that (the story goes) Marcos waited until JBL had retired from the SC before declaring martial law,” the abogado shared.

Jose Benedicto Luna Reyes was a noted Filipino jurist who served as Associate Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court from 1954 until 1972.
