Lawyer shot dead in Bukidnon

Another member of the legal community was gunned down on Friday, January 15, 2021.

Abogado Winston Intong was shot dead by a gunman on a motorcycle near his home in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. The man was shopping at a market stall when a man drove in front of him and pulled the trigger in broad daylight.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines condemned the brazen murder, lamenting that yet another legal practitioner’s life was taken away. He is the 55th to be killed under President Rodrigo Duterte’s reign.

“IBP prays and condoles with the Intong Family and continues to seek justice and security for Filipino lawyers. We feel the frustration but we do not fear nor falter in working with men of goodwill and responsible institutions to make the rule of law work in our country,” the national lawyers’ group said.

In 2011, MindaNews reported that Intong was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in nearby Valencia City where he runs a law office. He was apparently caught selling a sachet of shabu to an agent.
