Lawyer: Makati cops forced my clients to admit drug use during party with Dacera

The counsel of five respondents in the sensational Christine Dacera death case on Wednesday revealed the Makati police pressured her clients to claim that illegal drugs were used during their New Year gathering at the City Garden Grand Hotel.

Lawyer Abigail Portugal told reporters after the preliminary investigation at the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office that policemen forced respondents John Paul dela Serna and Rommel Galido to say the drug use angle.

“The powder issue insinuating drug use actually came from the mouths of PNP-Makati. It was added by them after subjecting the two (Galido, Dela Serna) detained to mental torture and misrepresentation, that they will be released from detention and no charges will be filed, if ever they will come up with fabricated, tampered afterthought, object and scientific medico-legal evidence,” Portugal said.

Portugal’s three other clients are Gregorio De Guzman, Clark Rapinan, and Valentine Rosales.

Dacera was found unconscious in the bathtub of her hotel room in Makati City on New Year’s Day following a party with friends the night before.

Hotel personnel tried to revive her before she was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead.

Three suspects were arrested and were provisionally charged with the crime of rape with homicide before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office.

But the prosecutor’s office ordered the release of the suspects pending results of a formal preliminary investigation.#
