Law Student Government releases statement against PNP, military presence in UP
The UP Law Student Government is standing with the UP community after Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde called for free access to schools including the state university. The abogado aspirants continue to enforce the 1988 agreement signed between UP and the Department of National Defense.
The UP LSG believes that intervention of the military in the university will hinder freedom of expression. The abogado aspirants also believe that the continued presence of said forces in the campus will spread fear and affect the activist nature of the UP community.
They also defended the said agreement by saying that it was done to protect the rights of the students, staff, and community. The signed agreement was not purely decorative as what the PNP might imply in seeking for a review.
