La Union police told to surrender all evidence on Ongpin son, painter’s death to DOJ
La Union police have been instructed to hand over all documents and evidence gathered from the hostel room where artist Bree Jonson was found unconscious together with Julian Ongpin, son of bilyonaryo and former Trade minister Bobby Ongpin.
No less than Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra ordered state prosecutors from his own office to take over the investigation on the illegal drug charges against the 29-year-old Ongpin and on the death of Jonson. This came days after the discovery of the artist’s body with a stash of cocaine inside their shared room at the Flotsam & Jetsam Hostel.
DOJ Department Order 229 issued Friday ordered the transfer of the complaint against Ongpin from the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor of La Union to the Office of the Secretary of Justice Prosecution Staff, with two prosecutors to carry out the probe.
Ongpin was set free after being initially accosted for cocaine possession and drug use.
