Re-electionist Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel on Monday was charged with perjury before the Manila prosecutor’s office allegedly for making false statements while under oath.

The complaint, which was filed by lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, stemmed from the electoral sabotage case that Pimentel filed against then president and Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, her husband Mike, and several others in 2011.

Topacio’s complaint against Pimental was based on a Pasay City regional trial court ruling in December 2018 clearing Arroyo from the electoral sabotage case.

Following this, Topacio disclosed that Pimentel’s statements made while under oath are grounds for perjury.
