Actress Kim Chiu’s sister, Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu, is facing qualified theft charges over the alleged taking of P44.4 million in corporate funds from their business venture.

According to pep.ph report, the Quezon City prosecutor’s office found probable cause to file 124 counts of qualified theft against Lakam.

The report quoted the prosecutor’s office as saying that the evidence showed that Lakam allegedly unlawfully took P44.396 million from their company House of Little Bunny Philippines, Inc. (HOLB).

Kim earlier filed the complaint against her sister after finding what she said were serious financial discrepancies within her business operations. She also said she took legal action to protect the people who work for her.

The PEP report quoted Lakam’s denial of the allegations.

She said the money in their joint bank accounts was not just for HOLB’s expenses, but could be used for their other business ventures.

She also contended that she did not need authorization to withdraw money in the bank accounts, which was why her transactions could not be considered unauthorized.

According to Lakam, the money was used for a casino “junket” business venture, which, however, failed, which was why she was unable to recover her investment.
