Kalat na kalat na! Sereno tags Midas Marquez in judiciary-wide call for her resignation
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is convinced that Supreme Court Administrator Midas Marquez is actively egging on members of the judiciary to call for her resignation.
In an interview over ABS-CBN’s “Bandila” Wednesday (March 14), Sereno said word has reached her about Marquez’s involvement in efforts to make her step down from office.
“Marami pong nagsasabi sa akin na ganoon. Marami na akong natatanggap na report na yun ang impression,” she said.
Asked whether she believes Marquez has a hand in judiciary-wide efforts for her resignation, Sereno said: “Palagay ko ‘no?”
Several Supreme Court employees have been wearing read during the flag ceremony on Mondays as a sign they want Sereno to resign.
On March 12, the president of the Supreme Court Employees’ Association (SCEA) publicly called on the Chief Justice to quit amid the impeachment complaint she is facing.
SCEA president Erwin Ocson said the call for Serenp’s resignation is supported by the Philippine Judges Association President and Marikina RTC Judge Felix Reyes, Supreme Court Assembly of Lawyer Employees (SCALE), the Philippine Association of Court Employees (PACE), and the Sandiganbayan Employees Association (SEA).
Sereno, however, questioned the number of judiciary members who want her to resign.
“Ilan po ba ang nag-pirma doon sa statement na yun? Dalawmpu lamang po. Tapos sa iba’t ibang panig ng mga bansa, ang lakas naman ng panawagan na neutral kami dyan, wag niyo kaming ilahok,” she said.
