Kabahan na kayo! PNP sues 80 for spreading fake news, scams online
The Philippine National Police (PNP) filed 121 criminal complaints on various cybercrimes discovered during the past year of the pandemic.
Leading the charges against 80 individuals are fake news peddlers, with 52 persons facing complaints. This is followed by 26 sued for overpricing, hoarding, and unauthorized sale of medical supplies, and two for perpetuating online scams.
“We are appealing to the public to be discerning and wary of fake news. This is also a stern warning to all individuals or groups spreading false information on various social media platforms. We will go after you and will not hesitate to put you behind bars,” PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar said.
“Binabalaan ko ang mga manloloko at mapagsamantala sa kapwa na tigil-tigilan na ang ganitong gawain. You will face the full force of the law for your criminal activities,” he added.
