DOJ spox resigns, cites serious reasons
Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete announced on early Thursday his resignation, he confirmed in a Viber message to reporters.
“After much thought, I have decided to submit my resignation from the DOJ effective today due to serious reasons. Thank you.”
“My reasons are very personal and I humbly request for everyone’s understanding. Thank you,” Perete, the concurrent DOJ spokesperson, said in his Viber message sent at 5:40am and 7:03am, respectively.
Prior to his announcement, Perete showed no hint of resigning from the Justice Department.
He was appointed by President Duterte as undersecretary in July 2018 upon the recommendation of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.
He was named as DOJ spokesperson in November 2018.
Before joining the DOJ, he worked as technical assistant with the rank of Assistant Secretary for Legal at the Office of the President.
Perete also heads Task Force Administrative Order 35, an investigative team created to investigate extra-judicial killings involving activists and journalists.
