Former senator Rene Saguisag couldn’t help himself but give top government officials led by President Rodrigo Duterte a quick refresher on grammar.

Saguisag said he was bothered by the repeated use of “charged of heinous crimes” by Duterte, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra and Interior Secretary Eduardo Año in the last weeks where the Good Conduct and Time Allowance law and its implementing rules and regulations were hogging the headlines.

“We don’t need felicity or elegance but they should be correct in their grammar. Either ‘charged with’ or ‘accused of’ will do, but not ‘charged of’,” said Saguisag in his Manila Times column.

“Josme naman. Paulit-ulit pa po. Ateneo and the Philippine Military Academy should teach correct usage, context and nuance,” added Saguisag who should have included San Beda Law School where both he and Duterte studied.
