Jake Cuenca speaks up after arrest, charges due to car chase with cops
Jake Cuenca said he was “fearing for his life” when armed civilians were flagging down his car on Sunday morning (Oct. 10).
The actor is currently facing complaints filed by Mandaluyong police for allegedly bumping into a policeman’s car and speeding away, causing a car chase that ended with cops shooting at his tires and hitting a delivery rider with a stray bullet in the process.
Cuenca said he had no idea that they were policemen and that they were doing anti-drug operations when he passed by. He added that what he saw were unmarked vehicles which tried to go after him.
“My instinct talaga was to not stop, was to go forward, to just go away from trouble,” he told ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe.
The actor added that he never felt his car, a towering black Rubicon Jeep, hit or side swipe any other vehicle.
“Naguguluhan din kami kung saan nangyari ‘yung bangga kasi in my car, there’s no paint from anywhere. There’s no damage in my car, aside from the damage that was caused by gunshots,” Cuenca added.
When police eventually caught up with the actor and his airless tires, the Los Bastardos star said he cooperated at once.
“I followed everything that they wanted me to do. I followed due process. Di ako naglaban, di ko sila pinahirapan,” he said.
