It’s happening: LEB approves JD migration to all PH law schools
The Legal Education Board recently approved the migration of the basic law course to a Juris Doctor degree. LEB Chair EJ Aquende posted that all law schools will be moving to the said program on a national level.
The LEB is now requiring all law schools to shift their programs to that of a JD. Many reacted and even clarified the directive including Dean Mel Sta. Maria who asked about the exemptions since he is not comfortable to carry a JD without the proper qualifications.
Aquende requested that he visits him so they can have a meal together over the question. However, he puts it simply that having the right electives and considerations do not equate to a JD.
MSU Law Dean Alizedney Ditucalan also commented on the said post and stated that the Philippines is the only country that continuously requires a thesis. Aquende was quick to retort that it is part of academic freedom and that no law degree should be held lower.
