Independent dapat! Aguirre wants to remove power of mayors, guvs to appoint local police chiefs
National Police Commission chief Vitaliano Aguirre II revealed bold and game-changing plans for the Philippine National Police under his watch.
Aguirre told Politiko Live that he wants to blot traces of political pressure and influence in police operations, especially at the local government level: “I want the Philippine National Police insulated from politics.”
“Ang nakikita kong unang una dyan, alam naman natin na ang ginagawa sa PNP ay merong karapatan ‘yang mga provincial governors, municipal mayors, na bibigyan mo sila ng tatlong pangalan at doon sila mamimili ng kanilang gagawing chief of police, pag mayor ka; at provincial director pag ikaw ay gobernador,” the abogado said.
“Dapat d’yan wala, kasi because of this power by this local government officials, yung ating mga police ay hindi mapipilitang sumipsip sa pwet nila eh, palaging nakasipsip yan sapagkat alam nila without the backing of these politicians medyo walang mangyayari sa kanilang promotion. Kaya ang dapat kako d’yan, it should be the PNP or the Napolcom who should appoint.”
He added that he also wants to separate the PNP and the Scene of the Crime Operatives, just like how the United States does it. In fact, he consulted the idea with American expert Nick Fletcher and top notch forensic analyst Dr. Raquel Fortun.
