Inconsistencies between CCTV footage, testimonies lead to Karen Bordador’s acquittal

Inconsistencies between the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage have led to the acquittal of radio DJ Karen Bordador and her former boyfriend of drug charges after five years of languishing in jail since their arrest during the beginning of the Duterte regime.

This was the conclusion of a 35-page decision rendered by Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 151 Judge Maria Paz Reyes-Yson, which acquitted Bordador and Emilio Lim of charges of conspiracy to sell illegal drugs, according to a report by PEP.

Bordador said she wanted to speak out for other persons deprived of liberty (PDL) and share her personal experience of being imprisoned for an incident that “did not happen at all.”

“That even if it’s one percent, it can happen to you. It happened to me, so if I’m gonna be somewhere, I’m gonna make sure to make a difference where I am at, and I’m also gonna try to do something very meaningful and purposeful,” Bordador said on her YouTube channel.

Her lawyer Aaron Tolentino said in a statement that “the paramount part of Karen’s life after her detention—just short of 5 years in jail—is that she walks as a free person now, reunited with her family who suffered a lot because of these false accusations.”

To recall, Bordador and Lim were arrested at the latter’s condominium unit on August 13, 2016. However, she tested negative for drugs at the time. #
