Cabugao, Ilocos Sur Mayor Josh Edward Cobangbang is facing criminal charges for taking over a resort in 2017.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently found probable cause to charge Cobangbang with serious illegal detention and grave coercion.

The DOJ resolution signed by Undersecretary Deo Marco said that all of the elements of the offenses were present.

Also named as Cobangbang’s co-accused were 15 other municipal officials and employees.

The case stemmed from the complaint filed by Cabugao Beach Resort manager Virginia Nicole Savellano-Ong.

In her complaint, she said that she, her son, and other resort employees got detained when the Cabangbang ordered the resort closed and padlocked without any court order on August 2017.
