IBP stands pat with lawyers in WPS kalikasan plea
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines on Friday came up with an official statement expressing support for its members who represented fishermen in the writ of kalikasan petition, which sought to protect the West Philippine Sea from foreign intrusion, before the Supreme Court.
The IBP issued the statement following a manifestation from the Office of the Solicitor General informing the Supreme Court that the 19 petitioner-fishermen disowned the petition, saying “they have nothing to do about it.”
“The IBP stands firmly with fishermen, IBP chapters, and the lawyers involved in the petition for a writ of kalikasan filed before the Supreme Court,” the IBP statement signed by national president Domingo Cayosa said in part.
The IBP said that they will ask the SC for more time to confer with the petitioner-fishermen.
