Hong Kong denied ex-Ombudsman Morales entry
Former ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales was denied entry and detained at the Hong Kong international airport.
Lawyer Anne Marie Corominas, Carpio’s counsel, disclosed the former Supreme Court justice was cited by Hong Kong authorities as “threat to security.”
As of this writing, Morales, who flew in from Manila with her family, remained at the airport’ immigration at Terminal 1.
Morales was separated from her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren who were kept in a different room near the immigration area, Corominas said.
“How is a 78-year-old former anti-corruption ombudswoman a ‘security threat’ in HK-China?” Corominas asked.
