Hilbay supports ICC case vs China’s Jinping
Former solicitor general Pilo Hilbay on Friday released a statement regarding the case filed before the International Criminal Court against China President Xi Jinping.
The case was filed on March 15, or two days before the effectivity of the Philippines’ withdrawal from the ICC, by former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario and retired Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
“I express my unequivocal support to former SFA Del Rosario and Ombudsman Carpio-Morales, and the hundreds of thousands of Filipino fishermen who are victims of environmental damage in China’s quest to solely and fully occupy the South China Sea,” said Hilbay in a statement posted on Facebook.
“The move to hold a hegemon accountable using the rule of law manifests that ordinary Filipinos can defend our sovereignty, and that our people can come together to hold power into account,” he added.
