Harsh? Zamboanga accountant gets 51 years max for embezzling P24,970
The Sandiganbayan has meted out a harsh sentence of 23 to 51 years on Zamboanga City Accountant Sylvia Binarao for allegedly padding her travel expenses in order to pocket P24,970.
In a recent 61-page decision, the court’s Special Third Division also ordered Binarao to pay a P113,970 fine.
She was found guilty of two counts each of graft, malversation and falsification, and one count of estafa through falsification.
Prosecutors accused Binarao of tampering the receipts she presented for the liquidation of her travel expenses in Cagayan de Oro City, Roxas City and Manila from November 2001 to May 2002.
The amounts she presented totaling P37,514 was three times her actual expenses of P12,544.
