Gueverra cautions Mike Defensor over Ivermectin distribution
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday cautioned AnaKalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor from pushing through with his plan to give Quezon City residents access to Ivermectin.
Ivermectin is an anti-parasitic drug that some people claim can help prevent or treat COVID-19.
“I am sure that as a lawmaker, Rep. Mike Defensor knows the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) law very well and that he is very much aware of what acts are allowed and what acts are prohibited under the said law,” Guevarra said in a message.
The FDA said that it has not approved the animal drug for the treatment of viral infections in humans although it said that those who want to use it may apply for a compassionate special permit.
Also, the World Health Organization (WHO) is not endorsing the use of Ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19.
Defensor said that he will be giving away Ivermectin, prioritizing senior citizens and those with poor health.
“Sagot ni Cong. Mike Defensor ang IVERMECTIN niyo habang wala pa ang bakuna,” he said in Facebook.
“Uunahin muna ang mga may sakit, ang mga senior citizens habang limitado pa ang suplay ng IVERMECTIN,” he added. #
