Guevarra on narco-list: No violation of Bill of Rights
Justice Sectetary Menardo Guevarra on Sunday defended President Duterte’s so-called “narco-list,” saying there was no violation on the Bill Rights when it was announced.
Guevarra pointed out the politicians named and implicated in the list would be given equal opportunities to refute the allegations against them.
“The so-called narco list was made known after the DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) had filed administrative charges against the local government officials mentioned in the list. These officials therefore would have a forum where they could controvert the charges of gross misconduct, conduct unbecoming a public officer, conduct prejudicial to the service and other charges thrown against them,” Guevarra pointed out.
Also, Guevarra disclosed that the Department of Justice will immediately start the investigation once it receive the evidence and other documents like intelligence reports.
“The DOJ is awaiting copies of the complaints so far lodged with the Ombudsman and the Anti-Money Laundering Council and/or copies of the intel reports of the PDEA and PNP before we commence a more thorough investigation of the criminal aspect,” he bared.
