Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday said the government’s motion for the issuance of hold departure order against opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes before a Davao court was already moot and academic.

” I think moot and academic na for this current trip ni Sen. Trillanes because he has left (the country) na. But an HDO may be relevant for his future travels,” Guevarra told reporters.

Just the other day, the Davao City regional trial allowed Trillanes to post bail of P96,000 – or P24,000 for each count – on charges of libel filed by Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte and brother-in-law Manases Carpio.

Paolo Duterte accused Trillanes of maligning him and his family in a radio interview in Cebu.

Trillanes allegedly accused the younger Duterte and Carpio of corruption and extortion involving Uber and other companies regulated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
