Gov’t to launch Philippine Crime Index to guide executive, judicial branches
The government will launch by early next year the Philippine Crime Index to provide the executive and judicial branches a uniform and comprehensive listing and classification of crimes.
“This index contains, among others, a complete and updated list of all crimes and the elements that constitute these crimes,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra disclosed.
Guevarra continued that the index, which will be available online, is “an important tool to ensure that every information filed by our prosecutors in court is less prone to quashal.”
With the launching of the uniform index, Justice Undersecretary and concurrent spokesman Markk Perete pointed out that there will be no more multiplicity of indexes among courts, prosecutors, and law enforcement agencies.
“Ginamit natin yung index na iyon for the purpose of helping prosecutors and judges in making faster decisions,” he noted. “And it is also going to be used by our police officers sa pag-gather ng crime statistics.”
According to Perete, CD Asia would be tapped to create the Philippine Crime Index which will be a part of the National Justice Information System.
The proposed index has already undergone three phases with the final phase involve the updating for new laws passed by Congress, Perete added.
“Actually nag-soft launch na tayo, ” said Perete.
