Gov’t loses another civil case vs late Marcos crony Ricardo Silverio
The Philippine government is left with another empty bag as it lost a civil forfeiture case against businessman Ricardo Silverio.
The case against Silverio, said to be a crony of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and founder of Delta Motors Corporation, was dismissed by the Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division.
The civil case was meant to recover Marcos’ ill-gotten wealth which state prosecutors believed to have been lodged under Silverio’s name.
In the decision published recently, the court junked the case for the failure of state lawyers to “prove its allegations by preponderance of evidence.”
Silverio’s firm used to be the local distributor of Toyota units in the Philippines.
Separately, members of the Silverio family have been fighting over the late businessman’s estate, which has reached the courts.
