Ex-PDEA official arrested as gunman behind killing of 2 Cebu lawyers
A former regional official of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has crossed over to the other side as an alleged suspect to two crimes committed in Cebu.
Cebu Daily News reported that police arrested retired Army Colonel Edwin Layese, once the regional director of PDEA-ARMM now serving as private security of local properties in the province. He is accused of being one of the gunmen who shot dead abogado Joey Luis Wee in Cebu City in November 2020, as well as the ambush attempt on another lawyer named Joseph Gupana in nearby Lapu-Lapu City.
Cebu police released Layese’s mugshots on January 18, or five days since he was taken into custody by the National Bureau of Investigation.
