Escudero poised for landslide win in Sorsogon gubernatorial race

LEGAZPI CITY — Outgoing Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero is justwaiting for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to officially proclaim him as the new governor of Sorsogon province.

Escudero, who ran under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), has garnered 303,960 votes, according to the partial and unofficial tally of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.

PDP-Laban’s Bladi Frivaldo, his closest rival in the race, only got 31,867 votes, indicating a looming landslide victory for Escudero.

Other candidates for the gubernatorial post are Redentor Guyala who received 2,985 votes; Pads Rollin Galindes with 2,550 votes; Lady In Action Gabards — 2,084; Nestor Gotis — 1,838; Mike Lopez — 1,163; and Mandy Lucila — 694.

Escudero, whose term ends in June, is among the four outgoing senators, along with Antonio Trillanes IV, Gringo Honasan, and Loren Legarda.

Meanwhile, his mother, who is popularly known as “Nanay Elvie”, reelectionist representative of Sorsogon’s 1st District, received an overwhelming 118,436 total votes against her rival, Christine Balita, who garnered 62,051 votes.

In the province’s 2nd District, Ditas Ramos (NPC), sister of incumbent Rep. Deogracias Ramos who ends his term this June, received 110,264 votes. Her four rivals are incumbent Sorsogon Governor Bobet Lee Rodrigueza (PDP-Laban), who got 75,711 votes; Randy Medina (Lakas) — 4,107 votes and Juan Escandor (Ind) — 4,023 votes. (PNA)
