Eleazar assures no special treatment given to Bobby Ongpin’s son
Philippine National Police Chief Guillermo Eleazar said it is not favoring Julian Ongpin, son of bilyonaryo businessman and former Trade Minister Bobby Ongpin, in the investigation on the death of young artist Bree Jonson.
“Wala tayong sinisino pagdating sa imbestigasyon. Kapag merong pagkakamali –– at lalong merong namatay –– may mananagot,” he said in a Thursday media interview.
Ongpin is the last person seen with Jonson when her lifeless body was found inside their shared Flotsam & Jetsam Hostel room in La Union. Ongpin was arrested after over 12 grams of cocaine was found in the room and also tested positive for the illegal drug, however, he was set free by local police.
Eleazar also pointed out that Ongpin’s claim that there was no foul play and that Jonson died of suicide seemed to check out.
“Tiningnan (namin) ang galos sa katawan. Tumutugma sa sinasabi niyang claim na winasak niya (Ongpin) ‘yung pinto para pumasok doon at sumabit ang kanyang katawan sa mga pako na dinaanan niya,” Eleazar added.
A second autopsy was performed by the National Bureau of Investigation on the up-and-coming painter’s body upon the request of her family.
