Duterte signs RA 11459 or the Judges-at-Large Act of 2019
President Duterte has signed into law Republic Act 11459 or the Judges-at-Large Act of 2019 primarily aimed at decongesting court dockets with the appointments of 150 judges-at-large nationwide.
It was signed by the President last August 30 but it was only made public today, Wednesday.
The new law provided for the appointment of 100 Regional Trial Judges-at-Large positions and 50 Municipal Trial Judges-at-Large nationwide to be assigned by the Supreme Court.
The Regional Trial Judges-at-Large shall be assigned as acting or assisting judges to any Regional Trial Court while the Municipal Trial Judges-at-Large shall be assigned to any first-level court in the country as public interest may require.
Those who will be assigned as judges-at-large are entitled to the same salaries, privileges, allowances, benefits, and rank and title as those of their counterpart trial court judges.
Funding for the implementation of the new law will come from available appropriations of the judiciary under the current General Appropriations Act.
