The Department of Justice (DOJ) is still evaluating the United States’ request to extradite Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.

In a news briefing, Justice Undersecretary Ian Norman Dato said Thursday the DOJ has yet to set a deadline for completing its evaluation as it noted that the records and documents submitted by US authorities were voluminous.

“There is no time-bound obligation except to say that the department is carefully evaluating the request,” Dato said.

“I think it has been previously shared before that the records and documents that were transmitted to the department were really voluminous. So it is under evaluation by the department,” he added.

Asked what the DOJ is examining, Dato said the department is determining whether the US extradition request complies with the Philippines’ obligations under the extradition treaty between the two countries.

“If the request is compliant with the treaty obligation of the Philippines with the requesting state,” Dato said.

US authorities are seeking Quiboloy’s extradition to face charges involving conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking, sex trafficking of children and bulk cash smuggling.

Quiboloy is also facing criminal cases before Philippine courts, including non-bailable qualified human trafficking charges before the Pasig City Regional Trial Court.

He is also facing child and sexual abuse cases originally filed before the Davao City Regional Trial Court and now being heard by a court in Quezon City.

Quiboloy has denied the allegations and maintained that the cases against him are politically and religiously motivated.#
