‘Di pala college graduate: BOC employee faces criminal raps for faking school records
By Nancy Carvajal
An employee of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) assigned at the port of Davao is facing criminal charges for falsifying his academic records to gain employment.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed charges of perjury and falsification of private and public documents against Carlos Joey See Reyes before the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Reyes’ use of falsified school records was discovered by the human resources department of the BOC six years after he was hired for a plantilla position.
Investigation showed that Reyes knowingly submitted fake school records, diploma and transcript of records indicating he graduated with an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Mindanao.
The university, however, issued a certification that Reyes never enrolled for the degree based on records from its registrar’s office.
“It is established that Reyes with intent to perjure and falsify official documents, did then and there willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously committed perjury and falsify official documents,” the NBI report read.
The penalty for perjury and falsifying documents include jail time and a P5,000 fine.
