Di na ganun kabilis bumaha! Marcos hails Marikina’s flood, waste mitigation efforts

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday lauded the Marikina City government’s improved flood management system, noting that the Marikina River does not overflow easily during slight rains.

He made the remarks in an interview during his inspection of the Marikina Centralized Materials Recovery Facility.

“Uulan lang, aambon lang nang kaunti, nakita na natin tataas na ‘yung tubig nang husto at mag-ooverflow na. Ngayon hindi na nangyayari ‘yan dahil nga dito sa proyekto nito,” the President said.

He praised the Marikina City government for its efforts to mitigate floods and urged other local government units to adopt similar flood and waste mitigation measures.

“Kaya congratulations sa Marikina at ito ay dapat gawing halimbawa para sa lahat ng iba’t ibang settlement, lahat ng bayan, lahat ng lungsod, upang mabawasan natin ang problema natin sa basura,” Marcos added.

He cited the city government’s no build zone policy along the Marikina River, relocation of residents, installation of trash catchers, as well as its recycling and waste recovery efforts to turn waste into compost or other recycled materials.

He said this approach is a good example of a circular economy, in which discarded materials are reused and recycled for further use.
