‘Di ako tulad ni Trillanes! Duterte says he became an abogado without any favors from father
President Rodrigo Duterte has denied speculation being spread by Senator Antonio Trillanes that his late father pulled some strings so he could graduate from San Beda Law School and take his bar exams.
Duterte said his father, a former Davao governor and Cabinet member of then President Ferdinand Marcos, died in 1968 or four years before he took the bar exams in 1972. Duterte was kicked out shortly before his graduation after shooting a classmate due to an altercation. But he was later allowed to graduate and take the Bar.
Tang ina. I became a lawyer at 20 to 25 years old after he died,” said Duterte in a speech Thursday.
Last September, shortly after Duterte issued a proclamation revoking his amnesty, Trilllanes said: “Sorry sa San Beda College of Law, but I am not impressed with your product which is Mr. Duterte.
But Duterte said it was Trillanes who owed his father’s help in graduating from the Philippine Military Academy.
Kasi he was favored because he was always in the office of his father who was working for government, also a military man,” said Duterte.
“Siya pala ang nilakad ng tatay niya. My father would never do that even if I wanted to.
