Dennis da Silva gets 624 years for raping, abusing partner’s 14-year old daughter
The Pasig City Regional Trial Court (RTC) has sentenced actor Dennis da Silva to a total maximum of 624 years’ imprisonment for raping and abusing his live-in partner’s 14-year old daughter in 2001.
In a recent decision, the court’s Branch 7 meted out the penalty of reclusion perpetual, or up to 40 years in prison, for each of the 15 counts of rape. He was likewise sentenced to a minimum of 4 years, 2 months and 1 day to 6 years and 1 day for each of the four counts of child abuse.
Additionally, the court ordered Da Silva to pay the victim a total of P4.88 million.
This consists of P300,000 in civil indemnity, actual and exemplary damages for each count of rape, and P95,000 for each count of child abuse.
Although multiple heavy penalties were imposed on Da Silva, Article 70 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) provides that imprisonment could only be for a maximum of 40 years.
Da Silva, now 47 years old, had been detained in the Pasay City Jail for the past 17 years. His live-in partner Marilyn Paz died before her daughter could get justice.
Da Silva was part of That’s Entertainment and appeared in the movies Ninja Kids, Captain Barbell, Love Boat: Mahal Kita, Sheman: Mistress of the Universe, at Underage Too during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
He also had a controversial relationship with actress Ruffa Gutierrez. His career withered due to illegal drug use.
His daughter Faith da Silva is now a GMA contract artist.
