Mamamayang Liberal party-list Rep. Leila De Lima condemned the reported burning of live kittens by men in Laguna, who filmed the act for social media content.

De Lima said the perpetrators should be held liable for their actions, which she described as “disturbing.”

“Society has no place for animal abusers. It is deeply disturbing that some people would go as far as using animal cruelty as content. Mga walang awa!” De Lima said in a statement.

De Lima, who took care of cats when she was detained in Camp Crame, pushed for the passage of her bill that seeks to strengthen animal welfare reforms and set minimum standards for the humane treatment of animals.

She also called for the passage of her bill that seeks to establish Animal Welfare Desks in all police stations to help enforce the law against animal cruelty.

“No animal should ever be a victim of abuse for the sake of likes, views, or clicks,” she said.

The Bataan Animal Welfare Society said the two kittens had been rescued.

One of them, Nixie, suffered serious burns. The second kitten, named Zuko, escaped from the men who failed in their attempt to burn him.
