Court frustrates government’s bid to arrest Trillanes
The Makati City regional trial court on Monday junked the Department of Justice’s motion for the issuance of an arrest warrant against opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.
While Branch 148 Judge Andres Soriano denied the DoJ’s motion, it however upheld the validity of President Duterte’s Proclamation 572, revoking Trillanes’ amnesty for his supposed failure to meet the required requirements.
Judge Soriano stressed that the same court already dismissed Trillanes’ coup d’etat charges in 2011, and such decision “has become final and executory.”
He pointed out in his ruling a “well-entrenched principle that a final and executory judgment shall be immutable.”
