Citing the obvious. Guevarra says HK denied Morales’ entry due to ICC case
Former ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales was disallowed entry in Hong Kong on Tuesday due to the complaint filed against Chinese President Xi Jinping before the International Criminal Court.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra revealed this in a statement released to reporters covering the justice beat.
” I can’t find any reason for this incident except former ombudsman Morales’ filing of a complaint against China’s President Xi before the International Criminal Court. Regardless of the reason, however, we may not question the action taken by Chinese immigration officials, as the entry of foreigners or the refusal thereof is the exclusive and sovereign prerogative of any country,” Guevarra said.
Last March, Morales, former foreign affairs secretary Albert del Rosario, and a group of Filipino fishermen filed a complaint against Xi and other Chinese officials before the ICC.
They accused Xi and other Chinese officials of crimes against humanity for causing environmental damage in the West Philippine sea.
