CICC orders Reddit, Discord establish offices in PH within 24 hours

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has given Reddit and Discord 24 hours to establish a presence in the country as authorities seek closer coordination with online platforms following a school shooting in South Cotabato.

The CICC issued the demand amid concerns over the use of online platforms to spread violent extremist content and ideologies and the exploitation of minors.

The move follows the shooting incident at Banga National High School in South Cotabato on Sept. 18, which was reported as the third school shooting incident in the country in recent months.

The CICC said establishing a local presence would help strengthen coordination between the government and digital platforms in addressing online threats and related incidents.

The agency’s directive comes as authorities continue to examine the role of online platforms in the spread of harmful content and the potential risks faced by minors online.-#
