ABS-CBN journalists Ces Drilon and Marie Lozano, as well as “Bandila” executive producer Venancio Borromeo, have been charged with libel in connection with alleged defamatory statements regarding the sexual harassment case of entertainment reporter Gretchen Fullido.

Drilon, Lozano and Borromeo were recently indicted for one count of violation of Article 353 of the Revised Penal Code before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC).

Prosecutors accused the three of acting in bad faith in issuing their statements during the network’s internal investigation on Fullido’s complaint against news segment prodcucer Maricar Asprec and her domestic partner, former “TV Patrol” supervising producer Cheryl Favila.

In her affidavit, Drilon said Fullido laughed off and disregarded side comments from the male anchors of “TV Patrol” regarding her “body, manner of dress or behavior.”

Drilon also claimed Fullido said she “was willing to wear a bikini with an inflatable pool and bubbles on TV Patrol to increase its ratings.”

Prosecutors faulted Drilon for “jump[ing] into conclusion that the complainant could easily ignore such unpleasant acts, as if she welcomed the same.”

Lozano and Borromeo, meanwhile, were faulted for describing Fullido’s complaint as a harassment case and a “form of blackmail, knowing that others could take her place, especially since she had never produced quality work.”

The libel case was an offshoot of Fullido’s sexual harassment complaint accusing Asprec and Favila of sending suggestive text messages; the two claimed the reporter was only trying to cover up her professional shortcomings. #
